Staying at the Office Two Extra Hours, Willingly – I’ve Found The Dream Workspace for Creatives
Staying at the Office Two Extra Hours, Willingly – I’ve Found The Dream Workspace for Creatives
Ample spaces, calm and pleasant, practical and tech charged – That’s my first impression of WeWork at Lincoln Road, Miami.
The WeWork offices at Lincoln Road have seriously caused some impact on me. WeWork is a shared office space with 100 offices in 12 different countries around the world. You can say they are successful and have nailed down the science behind a pleasant workspace where you actually want to work and be present.
The first day I went to this conveniently located location, the lobby attendant directed me to go to the second floor and check-in on the Ipad they have there. I proceeded to the elevator and was greeted by smiling eager faces. The first thing I saw on the receiving floor was an attention-grabbing neon sign with your typical Miami allusive art-deco subject encapsulating the “Hustle Harder” quote. I’m very fond of neon signs and color, so this immediately got my attention.
I moved to check-in on the Ipad, it directed me to scan my driver’s license and enter whom I was visiting. I continued to wait in the sitting area and then advanced to my work floor for the day. I was greeted once again by another beautiful red and white neon sign, this time, it said: “305 ’til I die”. (For non-Miamians, this is the area code of Miami, although I’m sure Pitbull already taught you that).
My host went on to show me the floor. The kitchen/common area was on my right. He offered me coffee, tea, or flavored water. I saw a ping pong table room with a TV monitor and beautiful gold and white wallpaper. We moved, and sat on one of the conference rooms. It had a big TV monitor with instructions in case you wanted to connect your computer and display anything you wanted. We were then interrupted and told to leave the room since we hadn’t reserved it for the occasion. We went to another empty conference room right next door, with an even more beautiful wallpaper and colorful furniture. The light in the room coming from the windows was very calming and natural, it accentuated all the bright colors of the decoration. I felt like I was in a Blu-Ray movie, where everything is sharper and brighter.
Setting aside my first impression narrative, working at my designated area was wonderful. The workspace is enclosed with clear glass on the upper half and with opaque glass on the lower part to avoid distractions from next-door working neighbors. The desks are made out of light wood, the coffee cups are black, and there is natural light coming in from everywhere. You can see people passionately working next door, and everything is just flawless. After my workday duties were finished and it was time for me to clock out, I lingered about two more hours in the common area on a leather booth, working on my laptop while looking at a group of people playing ping-pong and releasing the day’s tensions.
The bathroom has mouthwash, beautiful funky wallpaper, and a whole-body mirror. It might seem like obvious things to have in a restroom, but these small details make such a big difference AND they add up. Details matter!
This place has truly achieved the “I don’t ever want to leave the office” statement for me. There are daily events about how to improve something about your business, great breakfasts, and consistent branding all throughout. WeWork seriously gets what a pleasant space is all about. It provides all the technological tools for work to become seamless, it focuses on making you feel comfortable, it has a great personality, and endless coffee and tea supplies. It’s a shared space where you feel part of something, where you definitely belong since day one.
Will this impact the boring cubicle rule at some point? I certainly hope so, cubicles are boring and give me claustrophobia.
Enclosed spaces make me want to run out of an office as soon as I can, and give me the need to jump in a cab to go have lunch anywhere but there. I think that the workplace is the most important place to be perfectly created apart from your home. You spend the vast majority of your time at the office, and thanks to WeWork I’ve seen the difference a good space makes in my work dynamic. You become focused, productive, and feel as if your office is your natural habitat.
